In our third runway challenge we are turning to an Italian fashion house, Dolce & Gabbana, by Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana.
The both designers were known in the 80’s as “the boys” because of their relatively young age then. In the 90’s they designed their first men’s collection. The bold Italian style from the design duo is known for flawless tailoring, cool off-duty options and the ultimate in statments.
Their Autumn /Winter ’21/22 collection for men was originally planned to be shown in front of audience, but the travel limitations due to the ongoing pandemic caused the designers to scrap the idea and resulted in a video-broadcasted show without audience. Interviewed in a phone call, Stefano Gabbana gave the collection the synonym “Spontaneity”, inspired by their e-boy motif of the previous collections and a portrait of the generations growing up on social media, a global digital community built on spontaneous self-expression.
The Vogue editor Anders Christian Madsen writes:
“…Between the kaleidoscopic shine, puff, and iridescence that make an e-boy’s heart grow fonder, they specked the collection with emblems of heritage menswear—formidable overcoats, suits patchworked from classic sartorial cloths—and cheeky nods to fashion history. A bouclé jacket, for instance, evoked a certain Parisian fashion icon, while a big rectangular bag drew the mind to that of an equestrian maison…”
In our third runway challenge in the MR SL ♛ 2022 competition we are taking a closer look at Dolce & Gabbana’s Autumn/Winter ’21/22 men’s collection, hoping it will inspire our audience for the ongoing and upcoming months for styling ideas.
